CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS TO THE XIX PAN AMERICAN CHILD CONGRESS 

The XIX Pan American Child Congress is organized by the IIN and the Sistema Nacional para el Desarrollo Integral de la Familia (DIF) (National System for Family Integral Development) of Mexico and on this occasion will meet in its capacity as an Inter-American Specialized Conference. 

It will be held in Mexico City on 27, 28 and 29 October, 2004, and its main theme will be "The Family: Basis for the Integral Development of Children and Adolescents

Six Working Groups will be established, each consisting of ten presentations and one Keynote Address on the following topics:      

  • “The Family as the Institution with Primary Responsibility for Protection, Upbringing, and Integral Development of the Child”

  • “Evolution of the Child’s Relationship with the Family”

  • “Children’s Rights and Their Relation to the Different Types of Families”

  •  “The Doctrine of Integral Protection and Current Family Law” 

  • “Family Violence and Its Impact on Child Development”

  • “Promoting a Culture of Respect for Children’s Rights:  The Roles of the Family, the State, Civil Society, and the Media”

Therefore, all individuals and public or private institutions dealing with children and the family in the OAS Member countries are hereby convened to submit their presentations in order to participate in the Working Groups of the XIX Pan American Child Congress.  

The presentations to be submitted under the responsibility of their authors should be original and previously unpublished, and should deal with the above mentioned topics. Likewise, they should not simultaneously participate in any other contest or selection, in which case they should be excluded. The presentations should promote an interdisciplinary approach and generate contributions to the improvement of interventions favoring the welfare of children and adolescents in the Americas. The presentations to be approved should reflect successful experience at the institutional, community, local, sub-regional, regional or national level.

A five-member Technical Committee will select the ten best presentations for each subject-matter area. The authors or representatives of such presentations will be entitled to deliver them in the sessions of the Working Groups of the XIX Pan American Child Congress.   

The Technical Committee will in turn select the two best presentations out of the ten initially selected for each subject-matter area. Their authors or representatives will be entitled to have -if necessary- their travel expenses and per diem afforded by the Pan American Child Congress through the IIN and the Mexican DIF during the duration of the event.   

This call for presentations has a strictly academic, professional and non-for-profit nature. The selection of a presentation to be delivered at the XIX Pan American Child Congress does not imply an offer to representatives, lecturers or authors to afford their travel expenses or per diem associated to this event. No fees whatsoever will be paid to such representatives, lecturers or authors of the selected presentations.

The deadline for receiving the presentations will be  August 31, 2004.
